Through the Eyes of a George
What a weekend it was at the club—one that will live long in the memory for all the right reasons.
We kicked things off in the best possible way, being pleasantly greeted in the morning with bagels and coffee, which immediately set the tone for what was to be a fantastic few days. This was followed by a wide range of lunches throughout the weekend, with the buffet lunch on Sunday being a particular highlight—and my personal favorite.
Thursday night saw the much-anticipated stag dinner, and what a turnout it was. With 102 people in attendance, it was one of the biggest stag dinners we’ve had in the last five years. The atmosphere was brilliant, and it really felt like something special.
Friday brought with it some fun but high-quality matches, played in front of a buzzing crowd. As the evening rolled on, the atmosphere only grew, with play continuing right through until 1:00 a.m. And even then, the party was far from over. Many made the most of there being women at the club, with celebrations continuing until around 5:00 a.m. Some weren’t finished there either, heading off to after-parties and then somehow managing to return in the morning to play again on little to no sleep—and possibly still a little bit tipsy!
Saturday night brought the second dinner. Although slightly smaller than the first, with around sixty people, it was just as good fun. Plenty of jokes were told, laughs were shared, and once again the partying continued well into the later hours.
Sunday wrapped up the weekend in style with two very entertaining finals. Remarkably, one player featured in both the singles and the doubles finals—Tarquin Sotir. Not only did he compete in both, but he also emerged victorious in each.
First up was the singles final, where Tarquin faced Nick James, the first-ever Fellow of Montreal Rackets Club. Nick put up a strong fight, but Tarquin came out on top with a 3–1 win.
We then moved on to the final match of the tournament, the doubles final, which once again saw Tarquin in action—this time partnering with Tanner Austin—taking on Will Annetts and Spencer Yager. In another excellent match, Tarquin and his partner proved too strong and claimed the victory 3-0.
All in all, it was an outstanding weekend of rackets, socializing, and unforgettable moments.
Play!
