Dear North American Racquets Association Members,
First and foremost, I hope that all our members, their families and friends are healthy and safe.
Let me begin by thanking Michael McLernon for his term as President. Over the last three years, Mike has accomplished a great deal, has kept our organization in a solid financial position and has introduced some exciting initiatives to keep the game flourishing. We are indebted to Mike for all the time and effort that he has given to NARA. Personally, I am pleased that he will continue in his role as the Montreal representative on our board.
Usually at this time of year, we are dusting off our bats, getting back on court with friends and are eagerly anticipating the upcoming racquets season. This year is obviously unusual and regrettably NARA has had to cancel all scheduled tournaments for the remainder of 2020. We will decide on the rest of the 2020/21 racquets season when the board meets this December and will then communicate our decision to the membership. In addition, the RWCC has postponed the World Doubles Championship, which was scheduled for November, and an update on the future timing of this match will be provided towards the end of the year.
Our clubs in North America, whilst adhering to state and local regulations, are now open and people are beginning to get back on court. The “pod” system adopted by a few clubs has been successful to date and has resulted in more play. We are grateful to our hugely-valuable teaching professionals for their flexibility in adapting to new protocols and for continuing to drive their respective programs.
With help from our scientists and a bit of luck, we have an exciting schedule of tournaments and club events planned for next year which we will be communicating via email and/or the NARA website.
In the meantime, please reach out directly to me or your club representative if you have any questions or suggestions. I sincerely hope we can return to some semblance of normalcy before too long, get back to enjoying this great game and rekindling the camaraderie both on and off the court.
In closing; thank you very much for your ongoing support of NARA. It is an honor and a privilege to be your new President and I look forward to working with the entire Board to ensure the continued success of North American Racquets.
We will get through this……
